Thought for Thursday

The Morgantown Theatre Company and Metropolitan Theatre are proud to present Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The dark musical thriller showed October 6th, 7th and 8th. Each night, the Sweeney Todd cast was faced with large audiences and loud applause.

Stars Shenendoah Thompson and Gigi Collett stole the show, representing characters Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett. Their chemistry was a joy for viewers to take part in watching.

Keeping Lovett’s character, actress Collett strikes a pose for the camera. She wears a high waisted skirt with a peasant blouse to illustrate the time period and economic status of her character. Others on stage could be seen in similar designs, with men clad in vests, high waisted pants and newsboy caps.

The story of Sweeney Todd dates back to the late nineteenth century. The main character, “Mr. Todd” has just returned from prison, expecting to be reunited with his wife and daughter. When he finds that both are missing due to the mischief of his rival, he vows vengeance. With the help of bubbly yet sinister “Mrs. Lovett”, Todd attempts to lure his enemy into a trap disguised as a barber shop.

With several twists and turns in the story, along with catchy musical numbers, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a must see spectacle!

Be sure to keep an eye out for the Metropolitan Theatre's next production: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, premiering October 28th through the 30th!
