Make It a Monday with Betty Puskar

Betty Puskar Benefit Fashion Show, Another Great Success!

This Monday, fashion students volunteered at the annual Betty Puskar Fashion Show. The show helped raise funds for breast cancer, as well as inspire and units its survivors.

West Virginia University's fashion majors not only volunteered, but created pink products to feature in the lobby of the Lake View Resort.

Besides design displays, raffle prizes, and an upbeat runway show, audiences were better informed about the Fashion Department of West Virginia University. Pieces of the historic costume collection were featured to inform passers.

The historic costume display featured elegant designs from the Victorian age to mod styles of the sixties.

Overall, the night was a great success thanks to all store owners, designers, models, planners, and volunteers. We hope to see everyone back next year!

Thought for Thursday

As Thanksgiving nears, the community of Morgantown often holds food and clothing drives. As of 2008, a unique kind of donation event has started tradition: Zombie Walk.

This year and previous years, the walk was held October 16th at 8:00 by the Chi Omega sorority house. Participants are encouraged to not only dress as zombies, but to bring a canned good. The proceeds of the evening are given to the Morgantown Food Bank.
After registration and donation, the zombies make their way down High Street, groaning at pedestrians who line the street watching with shocked anticipation.

Here in the Chi Omega parking lot, throngs of zombies wait eagerly for the walk to commence.

Zombies must stay in character the entire time, a difficult feat due to the amount of fun they were having.

Zombies were more than eager to pose for anyone with a camera!
At the end of the walk, participants met at Billiards & Cue to watch a horror flick and listen to local band Midnight Syndicat.
Overall, it was a night to remember with an estimated number of 412 zombies. Keep up the great work, fellow zombies and I'll see you  next year!

Thought for Thursday

The Morgantown Theatre Company and Metropolitan Theatre are proud to present Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The dark musical thriller showed October 6th, 7th and 8th. Each night, the Sweeney Todd cast was faced with large audiences and loud applause.

Stars Shenendoah Thompson and Gigi Collett stole the show, representing characters Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett. Their chemistry was a joy for viewers to take part in watching.

Keeping Lovett’s character, actress Collett strikes a pose for the camera. She wears a high waisted skirt with a peasant blouse to illustrate the time period and economic status of her character. Others on stage could be seen in similar designs, with men clad in vests, high waisted pants and newsboy caps.

                                                                                Chelsi Baker/The Daily Athenaeum

The story of Sweeney Todd dates back to the late nineteenth century. The main character, “Mr. Todd” has just returned from prison, expecting to be reunited with his wife and daughter. When he finds that both are missing due to the mischief of his rival, he vows vengeance. With the help of bubbly yet sinister “Mrs. Lovett”, Todd attempts to lure his enemy into a trap disguised as a barber shop.

With several twists and turns in the story, along with catchy musical numbers, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a must see spectacle!

Be sure to keep an eye out for the Metropolitan Theatre's next production: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, premiering October 28th through the 30th!

Trendy Tuesday

The leaves have changed colors, and so should your wardrobe.  Say goodbye to the swimsuits and flip-flops, and Fall into with jackets, scarves & BOOTS.

Boots walked all over the runways during Fashion Week 2010, and are a Fall necessity!

This season, boots have more trends than ever before, from ankle booties, leg-lengthening  looks to fun/funky styles. You don't have to spend a lot to get fabulous Fall footwear, check out Zappos.com, Shoes.com, 6pm.com to find great deals and steals!

I am highly recommending you to upgrade your footwear with some new trendy boots...Who doesn't love the smell of a fresh pair of leather boots, or the feel of a new pair of suede shoes?

PS: Hide your UGGs in the closet, and lock the door!

Denim Leggings

The denim legging style has been around a well but is still making a pretty big wave here on the WVU campus. Denim leggings have become kind of an epidemic with everyone wearing them, even the stars have been out in full force rocking the denim leggings. They are comfy, stylish, and can be worn anyway you chose. If you feel like dressing up, you can pair them with a nice blouse and heels, but if you are feeling lazy they are great with a t-shirt and sneakers or flip flops. They also come in many styles ranging from light blue to dark and different colors altogether. You even have some with holes just like your favorite pair of blue jeans. Some are so real looking that its hard to tell that they are leggings.

Erin Fish says she likes her jean leggings, especially when they are made out of the more denim like material.  This is exactly what she found in her shopping trip to TJ Maxx. As a personal skeptic, I didnt believe they would take off at all when they first sketched onto the scene, but they have proven me wrong and held their own out here in the world of fashion.

Pink Bash Update!

After trekking though the muddy mess St. Frances Field was in, we finally made it to the Gold and Blue Bash.  If you got there early enough, you could buy PINK WVU clothes at the shop, play games, like corn hole and pink pong, or grab a bite to eat.  Local venders were there like Chico’s Fat, Carvel, and Nathan’s Hotdogs.

I think I may have set my expectations a little high because I expected tons freebees and to see super tall Victoria’s Secret Models walking around everywhere.  This was not the case.  All guests who brought a toiletry got a ticket to spin the prize wheel.  Sounds great but the line for this wheel was about 2 hours long and there was a chance you would walk away with only a lollipop.  And since playing games in mud is not my thing, I had nothing better to than stand and wait for Drake! So wait in line I did.  I walked away with a $5 dollar gift card and frozen muddy toes.

Wacka Facka made a surprise appearance, which had fans excited, but the highlight of the night was definitely Drake.  Despite the “Free Weezy” theme of the night, Drake was killing it as usual.  He even brought a girl from the audience on stage, making every girl in the place jealous and heartbroken it wasn't them. In the end, I guess Drake was the big freebee so I shouldn't be disappointed.

Till next time,
Stephanie Marie

Thought for Thursday!

After stumbling from one school to the next, WVU Fashion Design grad Amanda Gill seems to have finally found her fashion gold mine.  She finished her time here as a Mountaineer last May and took a leap of faith to Charleston, South Carolina for an internship at Eden Boheme.

She worked alongside designer Anna Boheme and experienced fast pace photo shoots, designing, and fashion shows.  Amanda opened her door in the design community and figured out who she is as a designer.

Now she has an uber trendy blog, Amanda N Gill, that talks about everything from her lastest designs to her clumsy mishaps.  Her designs, by the way are definitely worth checking out. She’s got a line of funky, earthy necklaces to die for.  You can find them at Gilly lynn.  Also take a look at Amanda’s vintage inspired belts, leather hair accessories, and clothing for the “incredibly chic”.
Let get together and support our fellow mounties and all be chic mounties!
