Tanners Alley Tour

The fashion business association was invited to attend a tour of local leather shop Tanner's Alley.

Tanner's Alley was opened in 1976 and is currently located on High Street in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The owner used all sorts of textiles on his goods - including alligator!

Some fabrics were so soft - ideal for this worn and rugged look.

Not only does Tanner's Alley specialize in leather goods, they also offer several accessories and a shoe repair service.

FBA loved seeing the behind the scenes tour - it was amazing that behind the selling space was such a well developed work shop!

Trunk or Treat 2011

This year, FBA participated with several other student organizations of WVU in Trunk or Treat. Trunk or Treat is a great way to give the community's youth a safe, convenient way of trick or treating. Each club gathered in the Colisieum parking lot and decorated a vehicle to hand candy out of. Students went with a theme per vehicle and dressed accordingly.

In years' past, FBA has done a Cinderella and Barbie doll theme so this year we took advantage of all the super hero movies that have been recently released (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Green Lantern) by doing a Super Hero theme!

FBA Members pictured: Christina Gapen, Kellie Crane (Super Girl), and Kristina Pellien (Jean Grey)
Not pictured: Spiderman - who was a giant success with kids of all ages.

Children and college students alike loved getting their pictures taken with as Superman or Wonder Woman.

Here's to another great year!

Visual Merchandising Students present Historic Exhibit

What happens when two professors collaborate when one specializes in historic costume, the other visual merchandising? A historic exhibit of course!

Fashion Design and Merchandising majors faced a the ultimate project for their Historic Costume class (taught by Lynn Barnes) and Visual Merchandising course (taught by Nora MacDonald). Here are their exhibits that were on display at the Rio Carnival Day of Design in the Erickson Alumni Center.

It took the students several weeks of planning and developing, but once it came time to set up, it's clear what they had learned from their classes. This project has definitely been a great hands on way for students to apply their text book knowledge into every day work.
